The Editor Within; Editorial practice for writing practitioners March 14, 2012 |
Professor Graham Mort in partnership with FEMRITE will offer a three day editorial workshop at FEMRITE offices from Thursday 26th to Saturday 28th April 2012. Sessions will run from 9.30am to 4.00pm each day. There will be a registration fee of Uganda shillings 20,000 once your application has been accepted.
The workshop is open to experienced writers who are interested in improving and understanding the structure and presentation of their work and editing the work of other writers for publication.
The sessions will encompass poetry, short fiction and creative non-fiction. Through discussion, new writing and experimental exercises, participants will:
1. explore the processes of writing and reading
2. examine the role of the reader in realising the text
3. consider different narrative elements and how they fit together
4. think about voice and point of view
5. examine punctuation and its role in the text
6. explore how good editing can contribute to imaginative understanding
7. discuss what is ‘correct’ English and in what circumstances
8. explore how page layout affects the reception of the text and how it can be enhanced
9. discuss how good editorial practice can develop a writer’s creative and critical skills
We will ask you to generate new work and also to bring samples of writing to the workshop sessions. By the end of Saturday we will have assembled and edited a short anthology of writing with contributions from each participant.
The workshop targets a small group of 12 experienced writers.
To apply, please send:
1) Three poems or 1,000 words of prose to info@femriteug.org. Please copy to akroselyn@gmail.com
2) A short resume of your experience and interest in the course, with confirmation that you will be available for all three days of activity.
THE DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION IS FRIDAY 30TH MARCH 2012 AT 6:00PM
