PAINTED VOICES II – A Collage of art and Poetry

On 12th March 2009 FEMRITE Uganda Women Writers launched a new poetry publication entitled Painted Voices II. The publication is the second poetry publication in which there is a collaboration of art and poetry. This is a novel idea in the presentation of poetry. The artists had to read the poetry and paint a representation of their interpretation in picture form. The power of this synergy is simply mesmerizing and keeps the reader turning the pages. It is my belief that we shall see more of this kind of collaboration of art and poetry in the near future.

The majority of the poets featured in Painted Voices II are in print for the first time! It is great to read their works and see the amount of talent exhibited which had hitherto lain untapped. The poets are drawn mainly from the members of the Readers Writers Club, with few from the FEMRITE membership who include three established poets.

This book is published courtesy of the Poetry Poster Project. A copy goes for UGX 10,000= which is quite fair. They can be bought from the FEMRITE offices at Plot 147, Kira Road, Kamwokya. Get yourself a copy; it is worth it all, whether you are an academic, or a leisure reader.
